A Knowledge-based Approach - A different Paradigm What is it? In our business, knowledge is central to everything that we do. It is what we sell. Therefore, it is a fundamentally important intangible asset in our business. Our knowledge-based approach explicitly recognizes that knowledge is a key resource and is generated, acquired, refined and re-used by the people who work within our company. This focuses the efforts of the Management Team on the identifying the important enablers that ensure that the acquisition and application of knowledge permeates everything that we do professionally. In essence, it is the dual challenge of synthesizing knowledge held or gained whilst at the same time managing the people, processes and their environment so that the knowledge they posses can be built upon, extracted, exchanged and applied. Why are we using it? Our structure, culture, management approach, remuneration and processes are all geared to ensure that we can develop smarter solutions, more effectively, with greater efficiency and therefore at better value than any of our competitors. By using this approach we are continuously increasing our organizational knowledge. Our approach ensures that we are able to capture knowledge, make it accessible to everyone within our company and re-use it efficiently to the benefit of our clients. For example, if we find a more effective way of solving a particular problem in one part of the company, we can learn that lesson at an organizational level and allow everyone who needs it to access what has been learned so that they can apply it to problems encountered by our clients. This results in shorter timescales for delivering solutions and reduced costs. Everything we do - literally! This is true with a knowledge-centric approach. We have a culture that enables people to contribute ideas, seek advice from acknowledged experts and not feel too intimidated to suggest better ways of doing things. We also have a structure that encourages the rapid exchange of information, ideas and know how via a range of different media. Our processes are also designed to allow the identification of new knowledge. For example, we ensure that we actively learn lessons when an assignment is complete and commit ourselves to life-long learning. |
